CPE6444   An introduction to carbon dioxide utilisation   (15 credits)

Description

This module provides students with a broad introduction to carbon dioxide utilisation (CDU). Starting with the basics of carbon dioxide, history and chemistry, the course then builds students¿ knowledge in various topic areas for the use of carbon dioxide. These include uses such as mineralisation, using carbon dioxide to produce chemical products and using carbon dioxide to produce synthetic power-generated fuels. Students will also be introduced to the concept of life-cycle analysis for CDU processes. The taught element of the course is complemented with an exploration of various case studies, and a visit to the UK¿s Pilot-Scale Advanced Capture Technology (PACT) facilities in Beighton (http://www.pact.ac.uk/). Assessment of the module is through a formal examination and coursework.
